Second Saturday Salon

Second Saturday Salon

Second Saturday Salon is a recurring event each 2nd Saturday of every month. Ok, sometimes we promote events on other Saturdays of the month…

It is a gathering of interesting friends, musicians, artists and their acquaintances. We host these events in a neighborhood off Piedmont Avenue near Grand Avenue. This is not a business. It is our way to support local artists and musicians; to cook food we love; and to foster community.

Space is limited so you must RSVP ahead of time to ensure an intimate concert setting. Please reserve your space early by going to www.brownpapertickets.com to purchase will call tickets up until 3 hours before the show. (In the event descriptions below are links to the specific event tickets)There will be directions to the concerts on that site in order to avoid spammers. Email any questions about the events email to secondsaturdaysalon@gmail.com or call Robert at 415.994.3501

Upcoming Events

Maye Cavallaro – May 12, 2012

A sultry contralto loaded with inflections reminiscent of Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Mahalia Jackson-yet very much her own. A consummate jazz vocalist with caressing style that takes you into the heart of the music. It’s no wonder she is a sought after performer and teacher at the Jazzschool. Be prepared to be impressed!

Her band will be John R. Burr on piano, Jeff Neighbor on bass, and Jack Dorsey on drums. Expect some laughter, some tears all presented in a soulful, swinging package.

Tickets may be purchased at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/e/241887 or by contacting Robert at 415.994.3501. Ticket price is $30 per person and includes music, beer, wine, and hors d’oeuvres. Food served is always local, organic, and vegetarian.

NOTICE – Second Saturday Salon is evolving into a new non-profit organization, Bay Area Jazz & Arts.  Beginning June 1st, our events will be hosted at a new home venue – The Sound Room – at 2147 Broadway, Oakland.

John Proulx – June 9, 2012  at The Sound Room

The jazz scene is abuzz about singer/pianist/composer John Proulx (pronounced “Prue”). His piano playing is hot and swinging, and his voice recalls the smooth, mellow sounds of a young Chet Baker.

John is also a Grammy-winning composer. Jazz legends Nancy Wilson and Mary Stallings have recorded his songs.

As a sought after musician who has played world-wide, we are thrilled to present him in our new venue, The Sound Room.
